An exceptionally rare Scottish silver gilt castle top table snuff box. Made in Edinburgh in 1820 by George Fenwick. The box is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. The inside gilding is particularly good with a full set of hallmarks. The lid closes very tightly and the 9 part hinge is in great condition. There is an inscription on the front below the thumb piece "D. Thom from his friend Kirkwood". The casting of Edinburgh Castle on the lid is very crisp with minimal wear to the high points. This is one of the best snuff boxes I have had for sale.
